Bobhowla have revealed news of their new album with the release of their springtime fuelled first single Oh, Astrid. Their second album, What You've Lost Isn't Failure comes four years after their debut.
An awful lot has happened in the world since their debut record in 2021, as we all continually try to adjust to a world stage full of fiends, fools and friends. A fitting time for Southport's Bobhowla to reveal news of their new album with the forthcoming release of their springtime fuelled earworm that is first single, Oh, Astrid. It's essentially a straight forward love song, routed firmly in the celebratory jubilation that can be found in the simple act of embracing.
With Rod Jones (Idlewild) once again taking on production duties, What You've Lost Isn't Failure, out Fri 16 May 2025 was recorded in a rapid period of activity last year in the band's homewtown at The Arch Studio.
Their second long player dives deep into what it means to be human, exploring themes of love and resilience, offering a reminder that sometimes what feels like failure is anything but. Exploring new sounds whilst holding onto the heart of what makes Bobhowla, expect haunting melodies, introspective lyrics, and a few surprises along the way.
On the new single, singer Howard Doupe comments that, "this is one of those flashes of inspiration that just hit as quickly as it took to write. It's the first feel-good anthem of the year, enticing hope, joyfulness and a rare call to celebrate all that you can in the midst of all you can't control."
"We've created a tune that you can whistle and dance to at the same time. With a flurry of a trumpet call to arms, it's screaming out to soundtrack many a summers day ahead."
Looking ahead the album will get its launch event on its day of release with a special gig featuring a number of guest musicians at one of Liverpool's newest venues, Rough Trade. Tickets will go on sale shortly and will be available directly from the venues website.
